Mission Statement
BioIncubate is a student-run incubator for innovation bridging academia & industry. It enables multidisciplinary teams of students to develop disruptive biotech solutions to address pressing challenges proposed by sponsor organizations. Students will develop their skills solving real-world problems and workshop their concepts with scientists from industry. BioIncubate aims to showcase biotech's impact and serve as a launchpad for novel startups to emerge in Switzerland.
There are two tracks for student teams to get involved:
1) Startup Track for entrepreneurial teams to receive up to CHF 25k in grant funding
2) Forge Track for innovative student teams to solve challenges presented by industry sponsors & win the Grand Prize of CHF 30k cash.
Program Overview
BioIncubate Program
STAGE 1 | APPLICATION PHASE
Fall 2023 | 1-2 MONTHS
Sponsors propose challenges that can be solved with biotechnology. Students form multi-disciplinary teams and generate ideas for research proposals for initial proof-of-concepts. Stage 1 ends with a pitch competition where teams present & submit research proposals outlining their goals and budget. Sponsors select winning teams and commit to fund the teams' research efforts.
STAGE 2 | BIOINCUBATOR PHASE
Winter & Spring 2023 & 2024 | 5 MONTHS
Selected teams will perform experiments in the Student Biolab workshop to validate their hypotheses. Academic experts will advise & guide the teams.
STAGE 3 | FINAL PITCH & SPIN-OFF
Spring | 2024
The program culminates with a final pitch event for teams to present their projects and compete for prizes. The audience will include investors, members of funding agencies, journalists, entrepreneurs & scientists. Opportunities to continue the projects as a research collaboration or start-up will be encouraged.
